Federal
Federal tax credits, deductions, grants, and loans will pay for a large portion of your initial cost. Many of these incentives have no limit and cut project costs by nearly 50 percent! Below we have bulleted a few federal incentives.
- Residential
- Up to 30% tax credit on solar and wind projects (no limit)
- Up to 30% tax credit on geothermal and other renewable (no limit)
- Up to 30% tax credit on energy efficiency improvements (limited to $1,500)
- Commercial
- Up to 30% tax credit on solar and wind project
- Up to 10% tax credit on geothermal and other renewable
- Up to $1.80 per square foot tax deduction on energy efficiency improvements
- Up to 30% grant on alternative energy projects (applications due by 10/1/2011)
- Up to $2000 per unit or building for home builders who build energy efficient homes
State
While each state offers different incentives for different projects, your state certainly offers some type of incentive. Below we have bulleted a few state incentives.
- Rhode Island
- Up to 25% corporate tax credit (limited credit based on technology and size)
- Up to 25% personal tax credit (limited credit based on technology and size)
- Up to 30% tax credit on energy efficiency improvements (limited to $1,500)
- 100% sales tax exemption on renewables
- Massachusetts
- Up to 15% personal tax credit for solar and wind (limited to $1,000)
- Up to $4.40 rebate per Watt of photovoltaic energy
- 100% sales tax exemption on renewables
- Connecticut
- Up to $4.00 per Watt of photovoltaic energy (limited $32,500 residential)
- Up to $600 kW saved for energy efficiency improvements
- 100% sales tax exempt efficiency improvements
- 100% sales tax exempt on solar and geothermal
Utility
Check your local utility companies for a list of rebates and production credits. Many companies offer rebates that cover over 50% of the job cost on energy efficient technologies. These technologies in turn, can save you lots of money on your next energy bill.
